The Concert Room of Liverpool's St George's Hall was host to the latest round of the Club Geek Chic “In Conversation” series featuring the city's very own comic genius Peter Serafinowicz. Liverpool Live's Saira Kewley joined the audience for one of the most highly anticipated nights of 2011 so far...
Famous for his roles in “I'm Alan Partridge” as the USA loving Tex and in “Spaced” as Simon Pegg's arch rival, Duane Benzine; Serafinowicz has come a long way from his childhood growing up in Belle Vale.
His entrance was hilarious, the comedian, impressionist, writer and composer, grabbed the host Mike Neary and gave him a massive hug and kiss, “It's great to be back” he said.
The interview was really open, with Peter talking about his happy childhood and how he went about recording himself doing different impressions on cassette and sending them in to a few radio stations. It took a year but he ended up doing the voice over for a project from the BBC.
During the interview there were performances of five of Peter's favourite songs. International Globe winner Alex Burger, amazing female vocals from Laura James and the Lyres, Neil Campbell with Sense of Sound's Perri Alleyne-Hughes, Gary Brown and Terry Stears all performed. The songs chosen reflected his childhood and his life, not his wife and children as he jokingly said. They were a great mix and some of the arrangements were amazing, really different from the originals particularly Perri Alleyne-Hughes and Neil Campbell's performance.
Peter spoke about what he has been doing whilst he was away from the city and the projects he has been working on. One that we were not expecting was he has recently directed and starred in a music video for Swedish House Mafia's Steve Angello; “Open Your Eyes” is out on iTunes 8th May 2011. He also said that there are plans for his character Brian Butterfield with a weekly panel show but nothing is confirmed as yet.
Next up for Club Geek Chic organisers Gemma and Karen are potential 'In Conversation' events with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko and actor Sue Johnston. Watch this space or check out www.clubgeekchic.co.uk
