REVIEW: The Cultural Food Feast @ Sefton Park 23/10/11

The Merseyside Black History Month Group's Cultural Food Feast promotes the delights of cultural food and entertainment. Sefton Park Palm House has hosted this event since 2004 and more than 23,000 people have attended over the years. Our reporter Saira Kewley was there

The Cultural Food Feast is, in Liverpool, part of Black History Month. The event has been held for the past 7 years but has only become “successful” over the past 4, since then it has gone from strength to strength. The event is a day for people to come together at the Palm House and enjoy a taste of different cultures from all over the world and across the city.

There were dancers, vocalists, free food, drinks and a lot of people having a great day. Showrunners radio.fm were also there broadcasting the event to their listeners. This is a new radio station with the vision of “building bridges in the community”. Look out for them, they have great things to offer.

All the acts that performed on the day were pure local talent, from the young people from Windsor Primary who did a performance about Steve Biko, to 4saken an urban music collective who gave a stand out performance to Just for Us, a jazz funk live band with two vocalists, who were also outstanding performance, comparable to the Brand New Heavies.

There were also lots of things to do just outside the Palm House. There were stalls for getting information about what else is going on for Black History month, reach stalls for you to go and have chat  about any issues you may have. There was a climbing wall for the kids to have a go on and there were lots of people with flyers walking around trying to get themselves and their businesses out there.

This was a great local event and everyone who attended had a really great day, not only with all that free food on site but also the cultural experience which was on offer to them throughout the day.
