Liverpool FC and Wales striker Craig Bellamy will feature in a major new television documentary which airs on ITV4 tonight (31st January) at 9pm, highlighting his pioneering charity work in Sierra Leone. The documentary will offer a unique insight into the footballer's charity foundation which aims to build a better future for the children of the troubled country with support from UNICEF.
The Craig Bellamy Foundation is a charity that offers underprivileged children in Sierra Leone the chance to reach their true potential through sport and education, enabling them to build a better life for themselves and their communities. The foundation harnesses the passion for football and uses it to promote healthy choices, education for all, peace building, gender equality and sustainable development.
Bellamy used £1.2million of his own money to build an academy of excellence to give promising players the support they would need to develop on and off the field. From the foundations of the Academy, and with UNICEF's generous support, the CBF League was born. Now in its third year and involving almost 2,000 boys and girls around the country the league is making a considerable impact.
