Comic legend Mickey Finn, acclaimed actor Ozzie Yue, local favourite Kev Seed and Liverpool actress Charlie Griffiths will join Brookside favourite Louis Emerick when the hilarious Scouse hit comedy The Ciggie Run, returns to St Helens Theatre Royal from Wed 8- Sun 12 February.
Written by John Evans, Directed by Sylvie Gatrill (Night Collar, The Salon) and with a stellar cast of local favourites The Ciggie Run promises to have audiences laughing out loud once more with its hilarious mix of hysterical characters who get themselves into the extraordinary situations.
The Ciggie Run tells the tale of three blokes who plan a ciggie run to subsidise their income during the recession with hilarious consequences. Chrissie is doing his best to keep his creditors happy. Franna is doing his best to keep his wife happy. Lash is doing his best to keep Lash happy. That is until a local gangster Fitzy discovers that his unmarried daughter is destined for a stroll around Mothercare. The culprit responsible for this deflowering, a young Cuban by the name of Fernando, is advised to seek refuge back in his motherland, el pronto. An ensuing flight then turns into hilarious comedy, as the lads fancy a trip to Cuba, whilst Fernando wishes to join them on the 'Ciggie Run'.
The play started off as one of a series of short plays that cabbie-turned playwright John Evans created to be showcased at the Casa in Liverpool. Evans is also well known for another of the short plays Payback which was performed at the Unity Theatre in 2009.
The Ciggie Run returns for just 6 performances at the St Helen's Theatre Royal and is already set to be a smokin' success once more.
Chantelle Nolan, General Manager at the Theatre Royal said; "The Ciggie Run went down a storm last year and we're delighted to bring it back for a second outing in 2012. All I can remember from last year is hearing the audience roaring with laughter from my office, John's writing is fantastic and I'm told that he's made a couple of changes to the script to make it even better. I'm delighted to welcome back Sylvie Gatrill to Direct this fantastic cast, who I'm sure will have the audience rolling with laughter in the aisle once more. "
