Thought you knew all about Desperate Scousewives? Think again. Following a smash hit sell out run at Liverpool's Actors Studio earlier this year, the smash hit play written by Lynne Fitzgerald and Claire Bowles takes to the St Helens Theatre Royal stage from Wed 25 – Sat 28 January 2012

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of the real Scousewives; they throw bricks, not drinks, they don’t stick rollers in their hair where Sheila’s fella’s ma might see 'em, their idea of a ‘scouse brow’ is the one in Everton and the only playground they go to is the one they fling the kids in at the bottom of the road when the brats get annoying.
This is, of course, the story of the Desperate Scousewives that are set to be exposed in hilarious fashion when the play hits the St Helens Theatre Royal this January.
Somewhere amongst the terraced streets of Liverpool, a far cry from the pampered luxury of a city centre penthouse, four Desperate Scousewives face up to the hardships that life has thrown at them with a traditional blend of good humour and abrasive Liverpool wit.
This completely boss scouse comedy play, written by and starring Lynne Fitzgerald (Four Girls & a Caravan, Bunty the Bouncer) & Claire Bowles (BBC Radio Merseyside) and featuring Lynn Francis (Twopence to cross the Mersey, The Salon) and Phillippa Goodwin (Liverbirds.com) follows the lives of four female neighbours in Liverpool Terrace during the lead up to the jail wedding of one of their number. Throw in a death in the neighbourhood, a couple of battered wives and some comedy dance routines and it all adds up to an unmissable piece of theatre.
Producer, Director and cast member Lynne Fitzgerald said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing Desperate Scousewives with Claire (Bowles) over the past couple of years and couldn’t believe the reaction that we got when the play premiered at the Actors Studio earlier this month, the whole audience was crying with laughter, which was a real buzz for us ladies on stage. The play is thought provoking, compelling, hysterically funny and highly entertaining and we can’t wait to perform it again in the New Year at St Helens Theatre Royal”
